Drs. Sabre Cherkowski, Keith Walker, and Benjamin Kutsyuruba warmly invite you to attend the Forum.

The aim of the forum is to bring together researchers, policymakers, and practitioners across a variety of educational contexts to share knowledge and practices on positive leadership, well-being, and building school cultures where all may flourish.

This event is a key outcome of the multi-year research project funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) entitled, “Flourishing in Schools: Positive leadership as a catalyst for sustainable school improvement.” The forum’s goal is to establish new connections, expand conversations, and build community for flourishing.

Sabre Cherkowski, PhD

Sabre CherkowskiSabre Cherkowski, PhD, is Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Programs in the Okanagan School of Education in the Faculty of Education at the University of British Columbia. She teaches and researches in the areas of leadership, professional learning and development, mentoring and coaching, and diversity and education. With her colleagues, she recently completed a multi-year, SSHRC-funded research project examining teacher wellbeing from a positive organizational perspective. She is currently engaged in a second SSHRC-funded research project on wellbeing, examining positive leadership in schools as a catalyst for sustainable school improvement. She brings her experiences as a teacher, coach, and parent to her passion for exploring what it means to flourish in work and life.

Keith Walker

Keith WalkerProfessor Walker brings over thirty years of experience as a manager, teacher, minister, leader, scholar, and educational administrator in public and social sectors. His formal education has been in the disciplines of physical education, sports administration, theology, education, educational administration, and philosophy. Keith has earned national and international awards for his research work. In addition to his research work with senior educational administrators in K-12 and tertiary education, in recent years, he has worked a great deal in the areas of building the learning community and the institutionalization of change.

Benjamin Kutsyuruba

Ben KutsyurubaBenjamin is Associate Professor in Educational Policy and Leadership, and Associate Director of Social Program Evaluation Group (SPEG) in the Faculty of Education, Queen’s University at Kingston, Ontario. His teaching and research areas include educational law, policymaking, and leadership; teacher induction and mentorship; trust, ethics, and moral agency; and, educational reform and change. Benjamin has worked as a teacher, researcher, manager, and professor in education in Ukraine and Canada.
